A Campbell River man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to possessing break-in instruments and breaching his probation.

Campbell River RCMP say officers spotted a suspicious man shortly after midnight on August 28th in the 14-hundred block of Dogwood Street.

Police were in the area responding to an unrelated call.

Given a recent increase in property crime and break-ins across Campbell River, officers conducted further enquiries after clearing that call.

They confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Officers arrested him and, during a search, seized several items that police say could be used to commit property offences.

Michel Guillemette-Salter was charged with possession of break-in instruments and was held in custody for a court appearance.

He later pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to one day in jail on each count, followed by 12 months’ probation.

The Campbell River RCMP continues to prioritize investigations involving break-ins and property crime throughout the community.
