Fire restrictions are being eased in part of the region heading into the long weekend.

The Coastal Fire Centre is lifting its Category 1 campfire prohibition today - but some municipalities won’t be following suit just yet.

The ban in Campbell River is being lifted at noon, which will allow for recreational fires no larger than 60 centimetres in diameter, or in fully enclosed burners.

To learn more, visit City of Campbell River.

In the Comox Valley, a complete fire ban remains in effect, with local fire departments maintaining a zero-tolerance approach.

The CVRD says ongoing dry conditions mean the risk of wildfire remains high, and protecting communities remains the top priority.

For more information on your fire service area or to contact your local fire department in the Comox Valley, visit Comox Valley Regional District.
