Campbell River Hospice Society is getting ready to open its new Hospice Thrift Store on Friday and they’re putting extra emphasis on helping locate it.
The store is located at Unit B - 1030 9th Avenue, right at 9th and Ironwood, a spot the Society says can be a little tricky to locate.
The grand opening runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with curated thrift items, cake and refreshments, and a chance to meet the volunteers and staff behind the project.
The Raven’s Jon Varus will broadcast live on location from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the event.
Hospice says every purchase and donation at the store directly supports its free grief and end-of-life programs for children, youth, adults, and families.
Only a small portion of those services are government-funded, so community support plays a major role in keeping them running.
The Society says the new shop is possible thanks to a local supporter who donated the building outright, creating long-term stability for Hospice programs.
The opening comes as Hospice continues its annual fundraising campaign, “A Place to Turn.”
Running through December 31 to support clinical counselling, grief programs, volunteer companions, and end-of-life care, all offered at no cost to the community.
Last week, 100.7 The Raven’s Mark Berry was live on location to help with the campaign. During that broadcast, Raven listeners helped raise more than $10 thousand toward the $100-thousand goal.
The total as of this writing is $92,230.
Donations can be made at Campbell River Hospice Society or in person at 440 Evergreen Road.
