Campbell River City Council is moving forward with new bylaws aimed at reducing repeat calls for nuisance-related property issues.
The proposed Nuisance Abatement and Cost Recovery Bylaw and accompanying amendment to the Ticketing for Bylaw Offences Bylaw both received first and second reading.
The bylaws will allow the City to identify certain addresses as nuisance properties if they generate repeated calls related to disorder, disturbances, or ongoing problematic behaviour.
Once designated, the City would be able to recover the costs of future responses by police, fire crews, or bylaw officers.
Examples of nuisance activity include loud parties, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and other repeated disturbances.
The City notes this process would not apply to emergency calls or medical-related responses.
