Boaters around Campbell River are being urged to keep their eyes open for Vector - a three year old humpback spotted last week, tangled up.
The whale was last spotted near Sentry Shoal on Friday (June 28th).
In a Facebook post, the Marine Education and Research Society says the entanglement is difficult to see.
The post suggests boaters may have better luck recognizing this particular humpback by the dorsal fin.
Local ecotourism operators and Straitwatch have also been alerted, along with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
If you think you have found Vector, ideally this would be supported by photos showing the dorsal fin (to confirm ID) and the entanglement, you can contact the DFO Incident Reporting Line 1-800-465-4336 with specifics about location, and if you can, stay near until a member of the response network arrives.
