The City of Campbell River has signed off on its 2026–2035 Financial Plan, setting a 2.7-percent property tax increase for next year.

That works out to be approximately $5 more per month for the average household.

Utility fees will also rise by about $65 annually.

City officials say the modest increase reflects the balance Council is trying to strike between affordability and long-term financial stability.
Inflation, wage and benefit agreements, and the RCMP policing contract were among the biggest cost pressures, but the City says savings and efficiencies helped keep the hike in check.

The budget maintains core services and advances several major projects, guided by Council’s strategic priorities and community input collected throughout the year.

More than $83 million in capital work is planned for 2026, including the Erickson Road renewal, upgrades at the John Hart Reservoir, improvements at Nunns Creek Park, sewer and watermain replacements, and the Campbellton sewer upgrade.

Another $7.9 million will go toward operating projects such as expanded bylaw enforcement hours, downtown cleanliness initiatives, temporary overnight sheltering, community grants, CR Live Streets, and the addition of a Culture and Events Specialist.

Council also approved about $440-thousand - equal to a one-percent tax increase - for future infrastructure renewal and asset replacement.

Mayor Kermit Dahl says the City has managed to keep taxes comparatively low while still investing in key infrastructure and community safety.

The Director of Financial Services adds the plan remains flexible and focused on both affordability and long-term stability.

The Financial Plan has been approved in principle and will return to Council for formal readings and adoption in the coming weeks.
