The Strathcona Regional District is looking for artists to work on two public art projects that support community awareness and resilience through creative expression.
The project is funded through the Disaster Risk Reduction / Climate Adaptation grant stream in order to enhance community identity and foster social connection.
The projects involve works on Walters Island and Cortes Island.
On Walters Island, artists are invited to design, supply, and install a sculpture that represents a tsunami wave, to be located near the tsunami evacuation map by the government wharf (post office).
The goal of the installation is to draw attention to the map and encourage public engagement with emergency preparedness information.
Project two is looking for artists to create murals, to be painted on four water tanks, that reflect climate adaptation, inspiring ingenuity, hope, and community conversation.
Artists can submit their proposals online, by mail, or in person at the SRD offices in Campbell River.
The deadline for submissions is Monday, July 28th.
All projects need to be completed and installed by January 31st of next year.
