An incident on the 5th Street bridge was quickly resolved thanks to the assistance from bystanders.

Comox Valley RCMP says a female was seen climbing over the railing of the 5th Street Bridge in Courtenay, threatening to jump.

Officers were already in the vicinity and responded immediately.

While police were on the way to the scene, two bystanders intervened.

They talked with the person and ultimately assisted her back to safety.

“We wish to commend the actions of the two individuals who stepped in during this crisis and extend our appreciation to the public for their patience and cooperation while the bridge was closed.”, said Inspector Scott Mercer, Officer in Charge of the Comox Valley RCMP.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available.
