BC Hydro will be doing some work for the next couple days along the Puntledge River at Bear James Park.
It is to prevent salmon fry stranding within a low-lying area that gets isolated after high river flows.
Last May, there were several reports from the public that fry were being stranded when flows went up, and then down again.
BC Hydro’s Stephen Watson says they’ve been working with the City of Courtenay and will be filling the area in with gravel, to prevent strandings in the future.
Watson says crews will be limiting the impact to users of Bear James Park as much as possible.
