BC Hydro says it's continuing to monitor wildfire activity across the province as crews respond to power outages and smoke-related disruptions.

Wildfires have knocked out electricity to customers in the Clinton, 100 Mile House, Cache Creek and Boston Bar areas.

BC Hydro says it's working with the BC Wildfire Service to assess damage and determine when it's safe for crews to enter affected areas and begin restoration work.

The utility also says some customers may notice occasional flickering lights.

That's being caused by ash and smoke around high-voltage transmission lines, creating brief interruptions to the flow of electricity.

BC Hydro says the electrical grid is performing as expected despite the challenging wildfire conditions.

The utility is reminding people to be prepared by keeping an emergency kit and plan ready, unplugging non-essential appliances if time allows before evacuating, and making homes more FireSmart by clearing combustible materials from around their property.

BC Hydro also notes customers forced to evacuate for 5 days or more may automatically qualify for a credit on their electricity bill.
