The BC Green Party has elected Emily Lowan, a Victoria-based organizer and advocate, as their new leader.
In a release, the Greens say Lowan has spent over a decade building campaigns for climate justice, Indigenous solidarity, and democratic reform.
She has led high-impact campaigns at Climate Action Network Canada, published critical climate research, worked at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ Corporate Mapping Project, and successfully fought for fossil fuel divestment as a student union leader.
Lowen says their “bold, progressive vision” has captured the imagination of a new generation of Green voters.
Of about 5,200 votes cast, Lowen beat competitor Jonathan Kerr by about 1,300.
