The Conservative Party of British Columbia has officially launched its leadership race, with the new party leader set to be announced on May 30th.
The party says its Leadership Election Organizing Committee has finalized the rules, procedures and application process for candidates.
The BC Conservatives say there is strong interest across the province in the leadership contest, which will determine who leads the party heading into the next phase of provincial politics.
Party officials say the race will focus on key issues facing British Columbia, including the economy, health care, education, public safety, and social challenges related to mental health and addiction.
The party has also set a much higher nomination threshold this year.
To be approved to run, candidates will need at least 250 member signatures from at least five regions.
In 2023, just 50 member signatures were required.
Further details on the leadership race, including eligibility and timelines, are available through the party’s website.
John Rustadt was removed as party leader in December.
