Bamfield Main Road has reopened to public travel following extensive safety work by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
The road had been closed between kilometres 8 and 9.5 because of fire damage from the Mount Underwood wildfire. Crews have since cleared hazardous trees, repaired damaged sections, and restored safe passage through the area.
However, the ministry says there will still be some short daytime closures in the coming weeks as additional work continues.
Those closure times will be announced once they are finalized.
A new weather station has been installed to help monitor wind and rain levels in real time, guiding future closure decisions when storms hit.
Two emergency gates are now in place at both ends of that 1.5-kilometre stretch to allow for fast closures if necessary, and new signage has also gone up.
