There are mixed opinions on public support for the creation of cannabis consumption spaces in British Columbia, which could include lounges, cafes, or special events where marijuana products are sold.
A report from the Ministry of Public Safety says most respondents who use cannabis like the idea, while there's opposition among those who don't consume the drug.
Last spring, the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General invited Indigenous partners, stakeholders and anyone living in British Columbia to provide their thoughts on non-medical cannabis-consumption spaces. A summary of the feedback is now available online in a "what we heard" report.
Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth says the report provides valuable insights into people in B.C.'s perspectives on cannabis and will help guide their work to support a strong, diverse and safe legal cannabis sector across the province.
More than 16-thousand people took part in surveys online and over the phone.
