British Columbia has a new chief coroner.
The Government has appointed Dr. Jatinder (Taj) Baidwan to the position. For the last seven years he’s been the BC Corner’s Service chief medical officer.
The chief coroner is appointed under the Coroners Act by the lieutenant-governor in council upon the recommendation of the solicitor general.
As chief coroner, Baidwan aims to enhance the role of the B.C. Coroners Service to provide data to better inform policy makers in their decisions, preventing future deaths and improving safety for people throughout B.C.
