The Strathcona Regional District says the Area D Water Meter Project is entering its final stage.

Installation crews are wrapping up work, with about 50 water meters still to be installed this summer.

The SRD says there's no immediate impact on residents' water bills. Customers will continue paying the same rates they've been on since the project began.

Metered billing won't take effect until a new bylaw and rate structure are finalized and approved by the Regional District Board.

In the meantime, the SRD is encouraging residents to inspect their plumbing and repair any leaks before usage-based billing begins.

Officials say even something as simple as a running toilet or dripping faucet could increase future water bills once metered rates are introduced.

Residents are also encouraged to familiarize themselves with their new water meter and its display.

The Regional District says more information will be provided once the new billing system is approved, and anyone with questions about their meter or the project is encouraged to contact the Engineering Department.
