There’s new funding available to help rural and remote communities in B.C. strengthen and grow their local economies.
The latest intake for the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program is now open and runs until the end of October.
The program supports First Nations, local governments and non-profits with projects that boost economic development, support clean economy opportunities, and improve infrastructure in smaller communities.
In its first three years, REDIP is expected to invest up to 142 million dollars in more than 450 projects across the province—creating an estimated 7,000 jobs in rural areas.
There are four streams of funding available:
- The capacity stream offers up to $50,000 per year for up to three years, plus up to $100,000 in project development funds.
- The development stream supports planning work like feasibility studies, with grants of up to $100,000.
- The implementation stream can fund major projects—up to $1 million for infrastructure and services that support diversification.
- And the community transition stream is aimed at places dealing with the closure of a major employer or large-scale economic changes.
A Business BCeID is now required to apply.
The Province is encouraging applicants to register early, since setting up an account can take a few weeks.
