A major infrastructure project is expected to begin in Courtenay later this fall, bringing significant changes to Braidwood Road.
The City says the $6.6-million project is scheduled to begin in mid-November and continue through late spring.
Hazelwood Construction has been awarded the work.
The project will replace aging water, sanitary sewer and storm drain infrastructure along Braidwood Road.
Some of the existing systems are more than 60 years old and approaching the end of their service life.
Braidwood Road will also undergo a complete rehabilitation between Back Road and the cul-de-sac at its western end.
Additional improvements include upgrades to the continuous sidewalk on the north side of the road, along with new concrete curbs and gutters in some areas.
New traffic signs, pavement markings and crosswalk beacons are also planned to improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
Once construction begins, residents should expect heavy equipment, open trenches, construction noise and temporary impacts to street parking.
The City says the project will improve the reliability of local infrastructure and prepare the area for future growth.
More detailed traffic-management information will be released closer to the start of construction.
