Organizers are calling the 37th annual Walk for Hearts in Campbell River a resounding success.
The walk was held Sunday in support of the First Open Heart Society of BC.
Society spokesperson Lois Jarvis says the event raised $12,281, with more to come.
The First Open Heart Society of BC raises money to provide financial assistance to heart patients to travel to Vancouver, Victoria & beyond for treatments, surgeries and appointments related to cardiac care, with their main focus on children.
Over the years, the event has raised close to $400 thousand for cardiac patients locally. This year’s walk is dedicated to members Roy Johnson and Mary Schmitke.
Jarvis notes top fundraisers were the Schmitke family, Bob Tonkin/Dawn Piche and Tracey Jackson.
Funds raised will stay local and will be utilized for patient support and cardiac equipment for the Campbell River Hospital.
