Pet owners in the Comox Valley can now renew their dog licences for 2026.

The Comox Valley Regional District requires all dogs over six months of age to be licensed every year within Electoral Areas A, B, and C - except Hornby and Denman Islands.

Licences are valid from January 1 until December 31 each year.

Residents who live within the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, and Village of Cumberland need to contact their municipal office to obtain their specific dog licence.

Currently, in the electoral areas the cost to licence a spayed or neutered dog is $10, and for a non-spayed or neutered dog is $25.

Failure to obtain a dog licence may be subject to a $100 fine.

“Dog licences help make sure your beloved pet finds their way home to you faster,” explains Amanda Yasinski, CVRD Senior Manager of Building and Bylaw Compliance.

“Similar to last year, we will have several different locations for you to purchase your dog licence and will be providing pop-up locations in the community through January 2026.”

There are several locations for purchasing licences within the district, including the CVRD offices on Harmston Ave. in Courtenay, at the Comox Valley Aquatic and Sports Centres, and the Commissionaires Office on Cliffe Ave.

You can find more information on dog licences within the electoral areas, including licence pop-up locations in January, at Comox Valley RD.
