The Royal Canadian Air Force and the United States Coast Guard teamed up on a pair of medical evacuations from a Princess Cruises vessel located about 85 kilometers south of Tofino.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria received a call about 9am on Sunday, requesting urgent medical evacuation for two patients aboard the cruise ship.
Both patients were transported to medical facilities where they received critical care.
A CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and a CC-295 Kingfisher aircraft from 19 Wing Comox were part of the operation, which involved simultaneous rescue efforts coordinated between Canadian and U.S. assets.
The USCG sent a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Port Angeles.
The Kingfisher out of Comox provided aerial oversight and coordination throughout the mission.
The Dolphin conducted the first medevac, while the Cormorant hoisted the second patient.
In a release, 19 Wing Comox says the rescue operation exemplifies the exceptional international cooperation and the rapid emergency response capabilities of both nations.
