Saturday, January 24th, Merville Hall is putting on a Robbie Burns Contra dance for Robbie Burns Day.
Known as the Bard of Scotland & the Great Chieftain of the puddin’-race, Burns will be honoured while hairy legged, kilted Scotsmen & Scotswomen swirl about the floor shaking their thistles & spurtles. Contra dances are similar to square dances & English country dances where no experience is necessary as Celtic Caller, June Cannon, teaches each dance before it’s actually done to the music. The fiddlers will play old time waltzes & reels, jigs, swings & foxtrots. Plus they’ll celebrate the poetry of Robbie Burns & have healthy samplings of haggis to titillate the tastebuds. Kilts are great for dancing in, so wear your colours with flare & make the Highlanders proud. Doors open at 7pm, dancing starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth or $22 for the family. For more information, call 250-331-42-49.
