The Strathcona Regional District Board elected its chair and vice-chair for the coming year.
Director Mark Baker, Mayor of Sayward, was re-elected to serve a third term as Board Chair.
Director Matthew Jack, appointed by the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che’tles7et’h’ (Kyuquot) First Nations, was elected Vice-Chair for the first time. While supporting the Chair, he would also assume the Chair’s responsibilities in their absence, illness, or disability.
Jack said he’s honoured to serve in the role and looks forward to working alongside Baker and the Board to strengthen Indigenous relations, promote good governance, and advance the priorities of the region in a way that reflects the needs and interests of the communities they represent.
The SRD Board consists of 14 directors: four elected electoral area directors who serve four-year terms, nine municipal directors who are first elected by municipal voters and then appointed to the SRD Board by their councils for terms of up to four years, and one First Nations director appointed by the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che’tles7et’h’ First Nations government.
