Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh touring BC this week, with stops on Vancouver Island.
He was in Campbell River yesterday, alongside North Island - Powell River MP Rachel Blaney, visiting the food bank amid concerning reports that food bank usage will increase by 60 per cent a month in the new year.
Singh says working people who’ve never had to use a food bank are now having to turn to them for help, adding affordability is one of his top concerns.
The NDP continues its push to combat what’s being called “greedflation” and calling for an investigation into corporate greed driving up costs in the grocery sector. He wants excess profit taxes in place or strengthened anti-gouging laws.
The NDP leader continues his visit today - hosting a healthcare roundtable with Courtenay - Alberni MP Gord Johns in Qualicum Beach.
They’ll also tour the Port Alberni Port Authority before Singh heads off to Nanaimo later in the day.
