The Comox Valley Emergency Program will be holding a training exercise later this month.

The Comox Valley Emergency Program will be holding a training exercise later this month.

The CVEP is administered through the Comox Valley Regional District, and is hosting "Fracture on Fifth," a regional emergency training exercise, which will be held at the main office on Harmston Avenue on September 27th.

The purpose of this exercise is to allow the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) response and support personnel to practice operational guidelines, procedures, and communications systems, and to learn new skills in a controlled and safe learning environment.

Throughout the day on September 27, residents and staff may hear sirens or notice increased emergency vehicles around a few key locations where exercise-related field activities are taking place. The exercise will involve many different groups - local personnel from the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland, the CVRD and K’ómoks First Nation.

As well, Comox Valley Search and Rescue will take part, along with members of the RCMP, St. John Ambulance, Salvation Army, and others.

The general public will not be participating within the exercise as it is specifically designed as a practice and training opportunity.

The CVRD says it's great reminder to everyone about the importance of becoming better prepared for an emergency and checking on neighbours.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
