Campbell River Eagles Waterski Club is excited to be hosting the 2025 WSWBC Provincial Waterski Championships on Aug 15-17, at McIvor Lake.

The Campbell Rivers Eagles Waterski Club is a non-profit society committed to developing competitive water skiing and wake sports in our area. We have been operating as part of the Water Ski and Wake Sport BC Provincial Sport Organization since 1987 and have supported provincial, national, and international athletes on their sport quest. Campbell River is known for hosting memorable waterski tournaments, the first ones being hosted in 1990s.

CR Eagles Waterski Club members act as advocates of safe boating and act as stewards for McIvor Lake during the busy summer months. The event will take place in front of Middle Beach; there will still be a swimming area in the bay at the north end of McIvor and doggy point will be accessible. Community members are asked to come out and watch from the beach and leave their boats at home. Access to Lower Campbell will be detoured and a no wake zone is encouraged from the boat launch and within the main area of McIvor Lake to ensure the safety of the athletes. Development camps will be taking place before and after provincials.

Waterskiing is a unique sport as participants of all ages and abilities can take part in one tournament; whether it be those under 21 experiencing the sport of waterskiing on a competitive level for the first time, or a 65+ athlete gaining results to qualify for westerns, nationals or other international events. We are anticipating 60 or more athletes of all ages, and possibly some adaptive skiers. It is one of the few sports where senior officials are also participants and act as mentors to younger athletes as an example of long-term participation in sport over the lifetime.

No qualifying scores are required to take part in provincials. Competitive waterskiing includes the option of three events – slalom, trick and jump. In slalom, athletes are on one ski and navigate a course of 6 buoys as speed increases. Once max speed for their age category is reached, the rope begins to shorten in segments. In trick, athletes gain points by completing progressively difficult tricks on 2 skis, one ski or by completing toe tricks. In jump, athletes ride two skis over a 5–6-foot jump and try to cover as much distance as possible.

Tentative schedule is as follows (weather dependent):
Friday slalom and jump
Saturday trick and money jump (teams of all ages compete for the greatest cumulative distance)
Sunday will be the second round of slalom and trick.
Competition will start at 8am every morning. Join the McIvor Lake FB event page for updates on event schedules.

Thanks to the support of a VIA sport grant, we’ve been able to rebuild our jump – one of only about 6-7 in the province. Thank you to all the local businesses that have supported us in bringing this event to Campbell River. More info about Waterski Wake Sports BC can be found at wswbc.org.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
