The line-up
Crystal Asham is an up-and-coming Stand-up comedian on the Vancouver Comedy scene. Crystal is Anishinaabe from Peguis First Nation in Manitoba she brings her Biggest Baddest Auntie Energy to the stage whenever she performs, she will tickle your funny bone and have you in stitches laughing. Crystal is fairly new to the comedy scene but what she lacks in experience she makes up for with her high energy, and truth in storytelling ability.
She appears regularly at both Rez Comedy and Taco Tuesday weekly and monthly shows, strengthening her reputation as a crowd favorite. In 2024, Crystal performed with Full Metal Comedy at the Vancouver Fringe Festival, highlighting her versatility and stage presence.
Her recent credits also include appearances with IndigE-Girl Comedy’s Pro Showcase, “The Aunties Who Stole Christmas” in December 2024, as well as a featured set at the Just for Laughs Vancouver 2025 festival’s Best of the West, performing on the SiriusXM Exclusive Comedy Stage at Chill X Studios. Crystal continues to build momentum as a rising voice in both Indigenous and mainstream comedy circles. She is motivated by her lifelong dream of being a professional comedian and showing her adult children you're never too old to follow your dreams.
Debbie Courchene is an Anishinaabe producer, comedian, and filmmaker with family roots in the Sagkeeng Nation and Rolling River, Manitoba. Originally from Winnipeg, she has lived and worked throughout five provinces before settling in Vancouver. Drawing on both her personal experiences and deep cultural connections, Courchene is celebrated for her bold, cheeky, and unapologetic comedic style, which blends sharp wit and incisive humor to tackle Indigenous experiences and issues.
She is the founder and driving force behind IndigE-girl Comedy, an initiative that began as an outlet for Indigenous women and non-binary people who felt unwelcome or overlooked in mainstream stand-up comedy circles. Within just a few years, she built IndigE-girl Comedy into a cross-country collective—hosting workshops, writing sessions, and live performances throughout Canada and internationally, including sold-out shows at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, featured appearances at Just For Laughs Vancouver and New Zealand debut. Debbie and IndigE-girl Comedy made their debut at the New Zealand Fringe Festival in Wellington. This appearance was part of an ongoing cultural exchange, bringing Indigenous humor and “Big Auntie Energy” from Canada to Aotearoa, and included both Canadian and Māori comedians.
Savannah Erasmus (she/her/hers) is an Indigenous comedian, broadcast personality, and writer based in Vancouver, with roots in Kikino Metis Settlement and Cold Lake First Nation, Treaty 6 Territory. Known for her sharp wit and authentic Indigenous perspective, Savannah delights audiences as co-host and co-producer of Camp Comedy and Millennial Line. Her comedy has been featured at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and Just For Laughs in Toronto and Vancouver. A freelance writer and columnist for CBC Radio, Savannah also leads engaging workshops on social media training, empowering others to tell their stories and build community online.
Ticia Aks, also known as Aunt Tic or by her social media handle TicAks, is an Indigenous comedian and entertainer from the Gitxsan Nation in Canada. She has become well-known for her comedic performances, opening for Don Burnstick at Kiuspiox First Nation. Her work has been prominently featured with IndigE-girl Comedy and through her popular presence on TikTok and other social media platforms. Drawing from her heritage and life experiences, her comedy resonates with diverse audiences, particularly within Indigenous communities. Ticia Aks is also recognized for participating in major comedy festivals and events, such as Just For Laughs Vancouver, where she performs alongside other Indigenous comedians. Additionally, she organizes comedy shows and manages ticket sales, often providing discounts for performers
About IndigE-girl Comedy:
IndigE-girl Comedy is a non-profit, Indigenous organization based on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Our primary mission is to offer performance and mentorship opportunities to Indigenous queer, non-binary women or people who identify as women. The project is rooted in a foundation of culture and healing, recognizing the significance of comedy as a form of medicine in the Indigenous communities.
