Whole community vaccinations are going ahead this week, with Sayward on track to get the entire village vaccinated today.

Island Health has identified more than a dozen communities which will be getting COVID vaccinations through a whole of community approach. Communities have been selected based on their small population as well as travel barriers to residents accessing larger immunization clinics. Residents from small communities who would have to take a ferry, airplane, or drive more than three hours to get a vaccine will be having Island Health come to them with the vaccine, and the entire adult population of each community will be vaccinated at the same time.

Sayward and Kyuquot are the first communities on the list and residents will be getting vaccinated today. Tomorrow Island Health will be in Port Renfrew and Zeballos, and they will be on Cortes Island March 25-27. Quadra Island residents will also be vaccinated through a whole community clinic but a date has not yet been announced.

Tahsis and Lasqueti Island will be vaccinated starting March 29, Read Island on March 31, and Gold River will be vaccinated from April 6-8. Several other small communities and northern Gulf Islands are on the list with dates yet to be determined.
