One man died at a logging site near Gold River on Monday morning. Worksafe BC is now investigating.

CTV News reported that the man was a forestry worker. Yesterday afternoon Western Forest Products said in a statement that the incident happened on the company's Tree Farm Licence 19 in Nootka Sound and that the logging company was a contractor.

Company president and CEO Don Demens said everyone was saddened to hear of the death, and extended sympathies to the worker's family. He said the safety and security of employees, contractors and communities is top priority.

Logging operations in the area are currently suspended while Worksafe BC investigates with the assistance of Western and the forestry contractor.
